Meaningful Read Alouds

We all know that the benefits of reading to our children are significant. The introduction to vocabulary, sentence structure, plot, and information all occur with the reading of a single book. But why not take the time you spend reading with your child to the next level. When the time you spend reading with your child becomes a meaningful, bonding moment, children will gain a love of reading and learning simply by spending time reading with you! Bonds between parent and child can be formed on many levels when time is spent reading together. Interests are shared, life lessons are learned, and laughter is shared when we experience a story together.

We have compiled a list of fabulous read-aloud books for you to share with your child. Some books are classics that we remember from our own childhood. By sharing a memory with your child they are able to experience a piece of your childhood. This alone with strengthen your relationship with your child.

Children can learn about friendship, loss, dealing with school or teachers, etc. Often times our children are experiencing situations that are difficult. And often times it is difficult for us to watch our children experience these situations and teach them how to deal with them. By reading a book together we are given opportunities to teach and discuss. Somehow these lessons can be more meaningful after experiencing them in a book.
